| In 1994 my father-in-law died and we
discovered that my mother-in-law was not doing well. We brought her to live with us, and
after a series of testing she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. I became a stay at
home full-time caregiver. We were quite young - mid thirties since my husbands parents had him late in life, and I was totally unprepared for caregiving and knew nothing about Alzheimer's Disease. It turned out my small local support group was 3 women over 70 taking care of spouses - and I couldn't relate. My mom suggested I search the Internet, but there was really very little available. My response was to put up a web site, ALZwell, to establish support and information for myself and others like me. From this small start it has grown quite large over the years and even now that my mother-in-law has passed on, I am still maintaining the site, keeping up with the disease and answering hundreds of letters a week. These few pages here on ElderCare Online provide practical ideas and outlets for caregivers to loved ones with Alzheimer's Disease. |
